AI Lead Generation - Stop calling them leads!!!

The Salespuzzle Team · 30 October 2026 · 2 min read

New outbound systems appear every week, promising to fill your pipeline with leads. Many use AI to find contacts, write messages and send them at scale.

But there’s a question I think every business should ask: what sales experience sits behind the system?

AI can generate an email. It can help identify a company or suggest a message. But without real sales intelligence built into the process, it can’t reliably tell you whether that company fits your ideal customer profile, whether the person is involved in a buying decision, or whether there is a genuine reason to start a conversation.

There’s another problem: the word lead is being used too loosely.

A company name and contact is not a lead. A target is not a lead. An email sent is not a lead. A reply is not automatically a lead either. But still there are companies out there promising leads when they don't even know the meaning of the word in a sales context. Why - they have never been in sales!

If you send 1,000 emails and receive 50 replies, you have 50 responses. You still need to understand who has replied, what they need, whether they are a good fit and whether there is a real opportunity. Only then can you decide whether you have a genuine lead.

That distinction matters. Otherwise, activity gets mistaken for progress, and businesses can end up measuring the size of a list instead of the quality of the opportunities they create.

At Salespuzzle, we take a different approach. Our Sales Intelligence layer (the Salespuzzle Vault) is designed to put the thinking before the outreach: define the right market and customer, understand the people you need to reach, and give the sales process context as a conversation develops.

MAX supports the work of finding and approaching the right prospects. SAM supports the work of understanding and progressing opportunities to increase win rates. They are part of a connected approach through the Salespuzzle platform and DataHub, where prospect and customer information can carry forward through the commercial journey.

Sending more emails is easy. Knowing who is worth contacting, why now, and what to do when they respond and importantly applying proven sales methodology —that’s where sales intelligence makes the difference.

Find what’s holding your sales back.
